How to be an activist
A beautiful aspect of being human is that we have the power to effect change. When you begin to take action to bring awareness to the causes you care about, you become an activist in the process. Becoming an activist and fighting for change is certainly not always an easy task, but the rewards far outweigh the downfalls; But how do you actually become an activist? Is there a “how to be an activist for dummies” manual I need to follow?
During the COC Shakespeare Club, Trans Pride committee will be hosting an event called HOW TO BE AN ACTVIST. Learn from local and International Activist as they share with us on talking points such as; What is activism? Choosing your battles, Language and strategies, Self-care. These and other subject matters will be discussed as we strive to develop ourselves in being the change we wish to see. Speakers: Glenn Hellberg (psychiatrist), Cianán Russel (Senior Policy Officer at ILGA), Dinah Bons (Strategic Director TGEU and chair Trans United Nederland)

Tuesday 30th July 14:00 – 20:30
Q-Factory

Trans Pride Conference

This event aims to bring visibility to our community and its subgroups via three different interactive presentations, our themes will be the following:
Intersex 101, what is like to be intersex? what are the similarities with trans issues? where do those similarities divert? how to be a better trans activist without crossing intersex boundaries? Come and learn a thing or two regarding this very interesting topic. With Annelies Tukker from NNID.
Non-Western Trans identities, is being trans a new and uniform concept around the globe? Is it the same for Africa, Australasia or the Americas as it is here? What are the similarities and differences? Come and join this that will be hosted by members of the community from the global south, speaking about terms and identities that differ and precede our traditional ideas of what is like to be trans. Our guest speakers will be Neysara Rai (activist and founder of Transgender India) on Hijras, Bear Silver (U.S.) on the Two Spirit concept, Anaraa Nyamdorj (Mongolia) on trans identities from an East Asian perspective.

Sex as a Trans, how do trans persons live their sexual lives? Be curious no more, come and thirst your quench. For our event prominent and vocal members of our community will be speaking about sex and how they live it. Some of our guest speakers will be Dinah Bons (Amsterdam sex-work activist and strategic director of TGEU) and Jiro Ghianni (multi-media artist, trans man and sex-positive activist)
