Documentary
Nicolò Bassetti’s documentary Into My Name follows four young Italian transmasculine people – Leo, and his three close friends, Nico, Andrea and Raff – as they test the boundaries and possibilities of gender and transition.
The documentary, which is executive produced by Elliot Page, is structured loosely around a podcast that protagonist Leo records about his friends’ lives. In these interviews, Leo is not interested in the moment his friends realised they were trans, or their coming-out narratives – instead he wants to know about their dreams, their day-to-day lives, what makes them smile, what they long for.
The film is an intimate but, at the same time, respectful document of the lives of four transmasculine people. It is not a story of transition, but a mapping of four different discoveries of the self. Each depicting different histories, struggles, and desires.
