Vuslat Karan & Burcu Melekoglu | Turkey | 2022 | 84 min | Turkish spoken | English subtitles | Documentary
This film chronicles the life of Rüzgar Erkoçlar, a trans Turkish actor, and his transition journey beginning from the time he started his hormone replacement therapy to the present. The film was originally meant as a resource for Turkish trans people, but this changed when, six months into his transition, Rüzgar was outed to the press. With this, Blue ID became a story about privacy, media, and the stress of being a public figure with a queer identity.
The film will be introduced by the filmmakers and afterwards, Laura and Cyd will engage in a discussion about the media’s responsibility in representing marginalized communities, particularly transgender people. They will explore the connection between media representation and topics related to gender diversity, specifically examining the context of the Dutch media landscape.
