Angelo Madsen Minax : “We have so many more images now of gender variant expression than we did only 15 years ago. I’m proud to say the Riot Acts was among the early films that built a whole new genre for trans expression, that we now call “queer and trans joy.” And it was done completely DIY. It was for us, by us. And it still is.
Enjoy the throwback!!”
“Riot Acts” is a “trans-fabulous” rockumentary representing the multi-dimensional lives of transgender and gender variant musicians. A first-hand perspective of the intersections between gender performance and stage performance, “Riot Acts” suggests that identities and bodies are undeniably political, and the journey within a trans experience isn’t always one of tragedy, but one of creativity and joy.
Themes covered include songwriting, voice change, activism and the media. With Ryka Aoki, Katastrophe, Venus Demars, The Shondes, Novice Theory, The Degenerettes and The Cliks.
